Energy Performance Certificates

Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) present the energy efficiency of dwellings on a scale of A to G. The most efficient homes and buildings, which should have the lowest fuel bills, are in band A. The certificate also uses the same scale to show the impact a home or building has on the environment.

What is an EPC?

An Energy Performance Certificate shows the energy efficiency of a property on a scale from A to G, with band A being the most efficient. The average property in the UK is typically in band D or E for both energy efficiency and environmental impact.

When is an EPC required?

It is a legal requirement to have an Energy Performance Certificate for both domestic and non-domestic properties when they are constructed, sold, or let.

The EPC provides details on the energy performance of the property and outlines measures that may help improve it.
